Athlete Spotlight: Ricardo

FacebooktwitterFacebooktwitter

It didn’t take long to see Ricardo was going to love CrossFit. Seemed like his eyes would light up at just the mention of doing things as fast as possible even when he was in the 101 classes. He’s only a few months into the regular classes and is quickly becoming a badass, with muscle-ups, regular Rx’ing of weights, and many other accomplishments already under his belt.

If you could train all day would you try to be a CrossFit games competitor?

Heck yea! That would be a dream.

Didn’t take long for Ricardo to figure out muscle-ups! Dude is strong!

Least favorite breakfast food?

Oh man! This is a tough question. I enjoy eating everything like you have no idea but if I had to pick a least favorite breakfast food it would probably be … just plain egg whites.

What’s your favorite recovery drink? (non-alcoholic) recovery drink?

Hm … I’d say ON Gold Standard Casein Chocolate Supreme flavor. Keeps you full while you sleep as well so that’s a plus in my book!

Where were you born?

Daniel Freeman hospital in Inglewood.

Who would you like to meet in person? Dead or Alive?

Kobe Bryant of course! The G.O.A.T!

What is your morning drink of choice?

I usually just drink water, ICE water (flavored water), or I go to seven eleven and get myself a vanilla cappuccino.

Have you ever lost a bet? If so what was it and what did you have to do?

I placed a bet with one of my friends on the NBA finals last year. Loser had to wear the other teams jersey with a headband to class the next day. I said the Warriors were going to repeat and sadly they ended up losing a 3-1 series lead. Long story short I lost the bet and I had to show up with a Cavaliers jersey and a headband to class. By the way, I’m a Laker fan.

This does not look like a man who hates Thrusters!?!

What CrossFit movement do you dislike the most?

Thrusters!

What’s your favorite cheese?

Mozzarella.

If you could eat one food everyday and not get fat what would it be?

Definitely pizza.

What’s the best gift someone could give you today?

Hm … maybe something related to lifting like a lifting set, an air bike or a rower even.

What was the best birthday present you ever received?

A whole drum set my dad had gotten me when I was in high school.

If you were trying to impress another CrossFit member what dish would you cook/make them?

Well I’d have to find out what they like first then eventually use that and somehow turn it into a fancy dinner.

Tell us about one of your favorite moments/experiences/memories.

Probably grad night since we pretty much had six flags to ourselves because most schools decided to go to Disneyland (booo). Oh! And doing the Open! I was just hitting two months into crossFit and I signed up. Worth it.

Can’t wait to see how Ricardo stacks up in next year’s Open!

What’s your favorite unusual food combination?

I honestly add ketchup to everything so I’d say grilled Tilapia with broccoli and ketchup.

What was your favorite class in school/college?

My Astronomy and Weight lifting class.

What are your favorite CF movements?

Deadlifts, muscle-ups, rope climbs, and running.

What’s the weirdest thing you’ve ever eaten?

Deep fried Oreos and home made koo laid gummy worms. Not sure if it’s considered weird but it was completely brand new to me at the time and it was delicious!

If you could eat at only one restaurant for the next year, which would it be?

In N Out or Chick Fil A!
