Athlete Spotlight: Jacklyn


Jacklyn is a beast. She crushes workouts and is about as strong as any girl that’s ever come through our doors. But more than all that, she’s cool as hell. We’ve had several conversations about many different topics, and it’s easy to see that she’s a genuine, caring, awesome person. Who knew she can also communicate with giraffes? What was the last thing you ate?

​A banana, but I really wish it was ice cream.​

​Is that a show? I’d rather eat ice cream.​

How long have you been doing CrossFit?

​About 3 years I think. Time flies when you’re having fun!​

If you were a boxer, what entrance or walk-up song would you play?

I’d cycle through these:
Jackie (B.M.F) by Ciara – If you didn’t know, now you know.
Eye of the Tiger – Rocky, Pac-Man. Need I say more?
Mama Said Knock You Out – Don’t call it a comeback!

Why do you CrossFit?

​I have a ton of reasons, but the biggest thing for me is it’s a huge stress reliever​. I can have the worst day ever, but as soon as I walk in to the box, I let it all go. How could you not feel better after throwing weights around? And the camaraderie just makes me feel grounded – everyone suffers through the workout together (we’ve all got a bit of masochism). Those killer WODs take me to a different place thoroughly convincing me of mind over matter. I love that in the Crossfit world the “skinny bitch” isn’t necessarily promoted and everyone can scale a workout to his/her own ability. And lastly, there is always something you can strive for or get better at. You’re constantly able to work on improving so really can’t get bored.

Who’s your closest friend that you can’t convince to give CrossFit a try, but you know they would love it?

​I’d really like to get my parents to do it.​

You’re stranded on a desert island for a year. Would you rather be alone or with someone you don’t like?

​Alone. I can talk to the giraffes.​

What music did you listen to in high school?

Rap, Hip-Hop, R&B mainly​.

What is one thing you do for fun?

​Drink and hang out with family and friends​.

What is your favorite thing to order at a Mexican restaurant?

​Enchiladas. mmmm….​

If you had to get a tattoo (no choice here) and it had to be larger than 3 inch by 3 inch, and you could never have it removed, what would you get and where would you get it?

​I’ve actually been thinking about getting a tattoo, but I’m terrified of needles soooo yeah. I want a tiger (I’m every bit of a tiger in the Chinese zodiac) surrounded by sampaguita (National flower of the Philippines)

How many siblings do you have and what are their names?

​Older bro – Joseph​.

I can’t think of too many people that look this composed under heavy loads.

What’s your favorite tradition (family, holiday, etc.)?

​Any holiday/birthday/celebration with the family – we always have way too much food and celebrate for 3 more days to handle the leftovers​

Name your favorite protein source.

​Meat! Ha ha​.

When you went trick-or-treating as a kid, what was your favorite candy to get? And what was your least favorite?

​Any chocolate candy bar except for almond joy​

If you were completely exhausted post workout, and the coach said ‘surprise, there’s another little unknown piece to today’s workout…’ What would you want the next sentence to be? What would you not want it to be?

​You have to chug a beer! Ha ha. I’d totally take a cashout of 50 pistols. I would hate you if you said a mile run.
