Thinking about doing the 2017 Open?!? Here are 7 Reasons that are sure to make your decision super easy!

#1: 5 Benchmarks

In CrossFit we love benchmarks, from Fran to Murph and everything in between. Certain workouts that are great to see where you currently stand in your fitness and your skill development. The Five Open Workouts are great benchmarks for your reference, and unlike many other benchmarks, you’ll have a judge so you’ll know the scores are super legit!

#2: Pushing Yourself

You push yourself every time you do a CrossFit workout, but there’s something a little different about these workouts. The energy in the gym is palpable and directly feeds your ability to push a little harder.

#3: World Ranking

Didn’t you always want to know how fit you are in the world? The best part is you can play with the leaderboard to see what your ranking is among your gender, age, and division. Or you can compare to people in certain areas or even just at LAX. All fun ways to see how you stack up. This year they’ve also added another Masters division for some of the too old to hang with those young beasts, but not really that old, aka 35-39!

#4: Weaknesses and Strengths

The Open workouts have a great way of exposing some holes in your game, but they can also occasionally make you realize you’re a beast at a certain combo of movements. If you’re at all competitive and always seem to be just a touch slower than some of your fellow LAXers, there may be that one workout that you absolutely dominate!

#5: Judging = Cheering

For each Open workout, we will be splitting the class and you will each have a judge. Besides counting your reps for you and occasionally throwing you a good old ‘No Rep’ for meeting the movement requirement, they also happen to be your biggest cheerleader. As hard as the workouts are, you’ll have a personal helper there each time to push you through.

#6: Fun

If you haven’t experienced the Open before, then you may not totally get how working super hard and pushing through your limits can be Fun. But it really is. Friday Night Lights just really brings the whole gym together in a way that’s hard to explain – you just have to be here and feel it.

#7: Free T-Shirt!

Last, but certainly not least, you get a FREE T-Shirt! This is something particularly unique to LAX CrossFit and has been a tradition since we opened (which also happened to be the first year of the CrossFit Open). We don’t get anything out of the $20 fee you pay to sign up for the Open, but we still give you one of our awesome T-Shirts to showoff your participation. It’s one of the things that brings us all together.
