Got Glasses?


A couple of years ago, I decided to make the leap from glasses and contacts to getting lasik on my eyes so I can have the freedom of seeing without the worry of losing a contact while surfing or getting chalk in my eyes and not finishing a workout. Lasik is probably one of the most scary moments you can ever witness for yourself. Have you ever watched the movie “A Clockwork Orange” and the scene where Alex, the main character, has his eyes clamped open? That’s exactly what happens to you while for an instant, a laser corrects your vision. What happens next is amazing. You can pretty much see so clearly that you think your contacts are still in!

This isn’t the point of this post. 

Drop your old glasses here and help others!

After I had the procedure done, I didn’t know what to do with my old glasses since I would no longer be needing them. I contacted VSP to donate a couple and they sent me a box. Not a box to fit 2 pairs. A box for 50+ to be donated. So I had a thought that the LAX CrossFit community might be a great place to gather some unused glasses and help others out. What I am asking is for anyone or everyone that has an old pair of glasses and they don’t know what to do with them, please consider donating them. There will be a donation box by the cubbies for a couple weeks, so if you have some old glasses, please donate them!

VSP Global eyewear donation program, called Eye Make a Difference, is to help people near and far for people who cannot afford or do not have access to eyewear.

The Eye Make a Difference program boosts awareness about the importance of eye health while providing an opportunity for everyone in the community to support a charitable cause. Once VSP Global receives donated glasses, they’re refurbished, cleaned, and labeled for those in need through world missions. Since inception of the program in 2008, the Eye Make a Difference program, in partnership with our VSP network doctors, clients, and members, has collected and distributed more than 164,000 pairs of glasses to those in need across the globe.
