Reminder: Body Spec is Coming September 23, 2014!

ROUND 2!!  If you guys did this back in May 6, 2014, I am sure you’d agree that this was a great tool to find out what your body composition consisted of. Finding out your lean muscle mass, bone density, where you are on your rights side of your body vs, you left and all broken down by regions, etc.

Now that labor day has come and gone, maybe its the time to start getting serious. If you did this before, this is now your chance to essentially “retest” your body to see if there have been any significant changes. You’ve got almost a month to change your eating habits, your workout routines, etc. Think of it as an experiment for your body.

Woah. what is this thing?

Overview

BodySpec, has a  mobile body composition truck equipped with a DEXA scanner.  The scanner uses a very weak x-ray beam that images each inch of your body, and takes approximately 10 minutes.  Each scan generates over 100 points of data – including body fat, muscle mass, and bone density figures for whole-body and regional. Clients do this scan fully clothed – the only restrictions are that clients need to be under 350 lbs, no metal (zippers, bra underwires) and no pregnant women. (The x-ray is completely safe – radiation exposure is less than what you get on a plane flight from LA to NY.)

How It Works

1.      Clients schedule a scan appointment and pay on our website, www.body-spec.com

2.      On scan day, the BodySpec truck arrives at the gym.  Clients show up for their appointments

3.      Each client fills out some paperwork and then lies down on our scanner for 10 minutes. Afterwards, they’ll receive a paper printout of their results

4.      Clients then receive a 15-minute consultation with one of our in-house fitness experts about their results

5.      Digital copies of these results are uploaded into the client’s account on the BodySpec website for them to access anytime

Benefits

Quantifying – this is simply the most accurate, granular, and actionable body composition scan available to the fitness industry.  Most other forms of body fat analysis gives you a whole-body fat number of questionable accuracy (dunk tanks, calipers, bioelectrical impedance scales).  In contrast, our scanner was designed by General Electric for use at hospitals and universities for medical testing and research – thus the scanner offers medical-grade precision.

The same technology is used by elite athletes at the US Olympic Training Center, and by some NFL teams (See video and article here).  In fact, we recently scanned some NFL players too, check out the story here.

Tracking – Once a client does 2 or more scans, they are able to track exactly what in their body has changed in that time.  This is incredibly powerful when used in conjunction with a training or diet program – clients can know not only how much weight they lost, but also how much was muscle, how much was fat, and where on their body they lost it. Of course, for your personal training clients, this is a direct visualization of the impact of their training!

Improvement – Having a precise quantification of body fat and muscle mass helps clients set more meaningful health and training goals. We also provide android/gynoid fat ratios to help clients determine risk of heart disease, as well as RMR calculations based on precise measurements of lean tissue. All these tools help inform clients optimize their training and develop concrete plans to achieve their health and fitness goals.
